Backwoods Challenge 2024 for Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders

Skills Day 26 October & Backwoods Challenge weekend 30 Nov-1 Dec 
The Backwoods Skills Day on Saturday 26 October 2024
An opportunity to learn, refresh or practice old or forgotten outdoor skills. The skills sessions on offer will include:
* fire – how to build a suitable fire, collect and process firewood, light and douse a fire

* knots and lashings – how to create shelters, as well as make gadgets in a camp kitchen

* shelter building – how to build a shelter that will keep you dry and animals out!

£4 per Guide, Ranger or Young Leader. All participants will need to bring a packed lunch, drinks and snacks.

The Skills Day CAN be attended without doing the main weekend event.

Teams of 6-8.

Backwoods Challenge 2024 30th November to 1st December 2024
The aim of the Backwoods Challenge is to encourage young people’s team building and team leadership skills by asking the participants to prepare three edible meals from an unseen selection of raw ingredients, as well as to prepare a shelter for their bed for the night
Cost is £33 per Guide, Ranger or Young Leader (for both the weekend and skills day)
To attend the weekend participants must have attended the skills day.
Teams will be required to bring their personal kit plus some team kit (list to be provided nearer the time)
Teams of 6-8
If there are smaller teams entering we may merge them to make a bigger team.
Leaders must attend with their young members but a Going Away with Qualification is not needed.
Venue is Sir John Lowther Centre
