When do I have to meet the requirements by?

Volunteers need to meet these requirements by the compliance date – 31st December 2020.

What is the process for recognising prior learning of safeguarding?

See ‘Recognising prior learning – for safeguarding’ document on the Girlguiding website.

I am completing my leadership qualification – what do I need to do?

From the official launch of A Safe Space (end of September 2017), anyone completing Modules 1-3 of the Girlguiding leadership qualification will need to complete course Levels 1 and 2 (unless they have completed the current A Safe Space between January 2015 and September 2017, which would be an equivalent). This applies to young leaders who (are 14 or over) and have started work on the young leaders qualification.

If you are working towards Module 4 of the ALQ you can carry on with your qualification now and get it completed. You can then complete the revised A Safe Space, Level 3 later. Remember, the revised requirements around A Safe Space will not come into effect until the compliance deadline.

I have just completed my module two e-learning. Who can I have my follow- up conversation with?

With a commissioner or a Safe Space trainer (as long as they have completed A Safe Space training, Levels 1-3). Contact the county office to find out who you can talk to.

How often will volunteers have to renew their A Safe Space?

Volunteers will need to renew their A Safe Space Levels 1-3 training every three years and their Level 4 every five years.

Note the following

1) Volunteers receiving the e-learning Module two certificate will not be considered as having completed A Safe Space, Level 2 training until they have completed their follow- up conversation. After this, their account on GO should be updated as having completed Level 2.

2) Volunteers receiving the e-learning Module three have not yet completed A Safe Space, Level 3, they have only completed the e-learning elements and this is what GO should reflect. It is only after attending a face-to-face session that they should be given the Level 3 face-to-face attendance certificate and their GO record updated to reflect completion of Level 3.
