ARE YOU A SAFE SPACE COMPLIANT?
HAVE YOU COMPLETED THE LEVELS REQUIRED FOR YOUR ROLE?
THE DEADLINE OF 31 DECEMBER 2020 IS FAST APPROACHING
DON’T DELAY, ACT TODAY
A Safe Space e-newsletter was sent out by Girlguiding Midlands at the end of October 2020 with information to help you understand what the 31st December 2020 deadline means for you and your unit.
For any volunteers who were contacted by HQ advising them they had outstanding A Safe Space e-learning or training to complete, this means that if they do nothing then their Guiding Membership is at risk. Obviously, we do not want to get to that situation, so can we ask that if you have a problem in being able to complete the training, whatever that might be, that you do not ignore it.
Contact your local Commissioner and ask for their support.
Alternatively, get in touch with the county safeguarding advisor.
Why is safeguarding being introduced as a compulsory requirement for all volunteers from 2021?
Our Code of Conduct and policies state that from 1st January 2021 every volunteer must have up-to-date training for the level(s) required for their role. Safeguarding and promoting the safety and well-being of our members is the first priority of Girlguiding. It is the responsibility of every Girlguiding volunteer, member and member of staff to ensure you know what to do when we have a concern or receive a disclosure.
An overview of A Safe Space Levels for your role
Introduction – if you are a guiding volunteer you need to do level 1
Creating A Safe Space – if you are a leader, assistant leader, unit helper, leader in training, young leader, peer educator, those attending residential events and those that need levels 3 and 4, you need to do level 2
NOTE e-learning: before you start make sure that you have your membership number and the email address logged on your Go record to hand
Level 3 – Face to Face or webinar
Recognising, telling and taking action – At least one leader per unit, mentors, advisers, co-ordinators, licence holders on residentials, trainers, tutors and those doing level 4, you need to do level 3
Level 4 – Face to Face or webinars
Managing concerns, allegations and disclosures – for all commissioners, deputies and those sharing a role, trainers, safeguarding leads and safe space advisers, you need to complete level 4
You will need to keep your knowledge up to date on an ongoing basis. Levels 1 to 3 are renewable every 3 years, and level 4 every 5 years.
Let’s support each other and see if we can get Northamptonshire ‘A Safe Space’ compliant and move up the region tally board!
